What business has historically been successful?

I came across one of Codie Sanchez’s videos recently where she talked about what businesses almost never make money.

IMHO it is probably one of the smartest ways to approach opportunities in business, career or life in general. What has this opportunity historically led to? I don’t dismiss that taking calculated risks could lead to significant returns or uncapped ones but risk can be minimized where possible.

If historically ROI (Return on Investment) doesn’t do a lot of justice to service based businesses like restaurants, cafes, gyms etc unless a lot of stars and planets are aligned, I don’t think it’d make sense to start one for the avg joe. Sorry not sorry to the devs who dream about starting a cafe.

Similarly if one wanted to ultimately have a remote first lifestyle, how does it make sense to “go for an in person job for the first x years, and then switch to remote” ? It is instead a better idea to list out “what won’t put me 1 step closer to my ultimate goal” and avoid that.

If this ideology was applied to relationships, I think more serious ones would come out of it since people would already know “what they don’t want, for sure and aren’t willing to compromise with”.

I think choices on day 1 can have a big impact on the ultimate goal and hence should be made accordingly.
